I met Nicole and Frank at their home in Inver Grove Heights to photograph them amidst the country style surroundings of their own neighborhood. We wandered into the fields behind the couple’s house and I have to say, these two really pulled off an impressive spectrum of looks, moods, and personalities during the photo shoot. These photos will never get old! As the sun set, with the full radiant light on Nicole, and Frank at her side, we captured a dramatic study of facial expression. The result? A visual snapshot of their exciting, growing relationship. Mission accomplished!

Jenna and Josh planned their engagement session out and about in St. Anthony Main. Here, we have one photo setup in front of Our Lady of Lourdes presented in two different formats – a conceptual black and white version provides a very dramatic scene in contrast to one with richer saturation and color. Pictures can be exciting in so many variations! A rainy August set the stage for their Romeo and Juliet-inspired romance upon a bed of flowers.

For Christina and Jeremy, we recreated the early morning calmness of the water on Minneapolis’ Lake Harriet, a normally high activity hub for recreation. But it was as if these two were all alone at the cabin! To continue a theme of morning splendor, we also took engagement photos at Harriet Island Pavilion, depicting our creative version of the Italian Riviera with boats, water, and architectural highlights. No place can be more special to the newly engaged than the place they first met, so we finished off with photos reminiscent of their first meeting at Northrop Memorial Auditorium.

Lisa and Pete chose a spectacular location for their reception, the ultra hip and modern Graves 601 Hotel. It has so many cool, artsy backgrounds! We made a pit stop for pictures at Mill City and The Guthrie, chauffeuring around their rather large bridal party in a bus-sized limousine. What stood out that night was the attention to detail. Vendors really make a difference in your big day—styles, personalities, and experience. Not only were Lisa and Pete gracious hosts, the staff at Graves (bellman, general manager, event planner) were also incredibly accommodating. Lisa and Pete also worked with Muddy Paws Cheesecake and Instant Request DJs. And The Late Bloomer’s Alice-Lynn really outdid herself! Instant Request finished off the night with one of its signature features, an awesome light show on the dance floor where bride and groom still took center stage. August 22, 2009

For Jenna’s senior portraits, we took to the streets of downtown Minneapolis’ Warehouse District and Nicollet Island. We also spent some time in the studio, and captured a few classic shots on cool hued backgrounds. Jenna’s mom Jane was a great supporter throughout the day!

We’ve seen few rainy days in the Twin Cities this year, but Britta and John landed a gloomy one for their wedding day. Luckily we had no trouble capturing several beautiful photos outside. Bride and groom stopped traffic while crossing Third Avenue by The Depot. Britta is a very spiritual person, so naturally we caught her breathing in a moment of solitude. Kneeling at the altar was another key moment during their ceremony at Wayzata Community Church. John, a coordinator at the church, was a pleasure to work with; Sadie’s Fine Floral Design also did a stellar job with the bouquets and lemon arrangements. Congratulations to Britta’s sister, Krista, and Krista’s fiancé Brady, who will be getting married next July. We’ll be there to photograph it all! August 15, 2009

Ben plays bass, so it was great to take pictures of him with something that had personal meaning. High school senior photos can be personalized with props, and showcase a student’s individuality. We took a combination of studio shots, as well as some outside The Guthrie and Mill City Museum.

You don’t usually think of Minnesota when dreaming of sandy beaches, but my clients Amy and John hosted a spectacular beach-inspired wedding at their family cabin in Nisswa. Guests dressed for a tropical beach vacation; the whole place was decorated true to theme. This happy couple danced down the “aisle” to the beat of music; it was great! Since they didn’t see each other beforehand, one of the most intimate moments we captured was the feet washing. Post-wedding photos can be a lot of fun to take. Amy and John hopped back into formal wear a few days later for more pictures—the one on the hood of the truck is a unique juxtaposition of Amy’s elegance and the casual side of rubber boots. The Carlson Towers Rotunda in Minnetonka, Minnesota, is an exceptional venue for weddings and special events. Katie and Michael utilized many spaces around the Carlson campus for their ceremony and wedding reception. What an environment for pictures! We had lush greens in a calm, romantic paradise and elegant marble interiors. Photo editing can enhance beautiful photos: The wide angle crop of a kissing bride and groom makes for a stunning canvas—a picture-perfect memory for any room. Katie snuck in a Titanic shot. Later, the backlighting we positioned during the couple’s first dance formed the intended halo and perfectly round rim around the two, framing them for a composition that just sticks with you… sometimes the stars align and I’m grateful to be participating in a moment that’s meant to be. Fashion and style have a place at any modern wedding. For Ingrid Krah and Jason Hammerberg, sophistication was in every detail. The bride’s foxy fuchsia heels and groom’s custom made suit made bold statements. We also captured Minneapolis’ finest spots in photos: The Guthrie, the IDS Center, the Warehouse District, the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis, and Chambers hotel. A vintage Bentley was yet another spectacular visual! Ingrid and Jason’s reception was at Epic Event Center, where custom lighting helped set the stage for a fashionable event. July 25, 2009
Watch for this wedding in the January 2010 issue of Minnesota Bride!
